How to make a seam with a transitional edging

Step 1

Draw a pattern on paper, best on graph paper. And cut it out.

Or print the pattern details on A4 sheets, paying attention to the dimensions of the alignment sides. Cut and glue parts.

Step 2

Fold the main fabric in half. Place the paper pattern on the fabric and use the fabric marker to transfer the contours of the pattern. Cut out a piece of a hat with 1.5 cm allowances.

From a cotton fabric, cut a lining with 2 cm allowances.

Step 3

Cut the fabric for the ties so that you get two identical strips.

Step 4

Place the cotton cord in the middle of the strip on the front side.Fold the part along, aligning the long sections and, using the zipper foot, sew a stitch. Cut allowances to 3 mm.

Step 5

Step 6

Stitch the cap piece along the longest cut (back seam).

Step 7

Stitch the cap part along the shortest cut (front seam).

Step 8

Gently cut the seam allowance. And iron it up.

Step 9

Now alternately run the side seams first on one side of the cap, then on the other.

Carefully make sure that all seams converge in the upper part of the cap, cut off the corners of the allowances where necessary.

Step 10

Iron all seams.

Step 11

Sew the lining just like a hat.

Step 12

Fold the hat and the lining with their faces to each other and chop along the slices.

Step 13

With tailor's pins, pin the ties to the hat exactly according to the marking. The ties are inside between the cap piece and the lining.

Step 14

Stitch the cap and lining part, leaving a small area for turning out open. Turn out the hat. Sew the open area manually with a blind seam.
