How to make stitched pleats on a skirt neatly and simply - life hacks and tips.

This is a master class - on how to make stitched folds (such as on this skirt, for example), beautifully and neatly, plus - how to make your work easier.

How to align the hem: tricks and tips

You will need:

- paper pattern;

- something with which you can make small holes in the paper (suitable, for example, a thick pencil or awl);

- scissors;

- weights;

- tailor pins;

- pencil for fabric;

- ruler (ideally - also a ruler with a limiter for marking);

- sewing machine and thread;

- iron.

How to make bow folds

Step 1

On the paper pattern at the points marked for joining the folds, make small holes.

Step 2

Lay out the detail of the skirt with the wrong side up, put a pattern on top, align the edges and fix with weights. With a pencil for the fabric, transfer the dots from the paper pattern to the fabric.

Step 3

Mark the upper points by making small (1-2 mm) notches on the fabric.

Step 4

Connect the top and bottom points with lines.

Step 5

Just in case, check whether the resulting distances correspond to those provided for in the pattern. Make adjustments if necessary.

Step 6

Fold the fold and chop it, aligning the lines as shown in the photo.

Step 7

Lay the line along the marked line from top to bottom.

Step 8

Iron the crease, then iron (see photo).

Step 9

Stitch the crease to the edge, moving from top to bottom. At the end, make a tack. Delete the first line. With all the other folds, repeat steps 6–9.
